Twinners History

1983   Richard III Celebrations in Middleham.  Visit of Plantagenet Society and a link with Middleham suggested.

1984   Discussion with Daniel of Plantagenet Society who had friends in Azincourt and the Town Council takes an interest.

1986   Middleham locals (the Hibbards and Constantines) stayed at Hesdin in Northern France and paid an unofficial visit to Azincourt where they were warmly welcomed.  Public meeting held in Middleham to discuss twinning.

1987  February       French contingent visit Middleham to “look us over”.

1987  September   First official visit from Middleham to Azincourt and Twinning document signing.

1988  September  First official group visit from Azincourt to Middleham and Twinning document signing.

From 1988 onwards regular group visits between Azincourt and Middleham together with more informal visits between members.

Small events take place throughout the year to act as social events and to finance the entertainment of the Azincoutois on their visits.  These events are open to all members, prospective members as guests and on occasion (the quizzes for example) to the wider community.
